REST & REFLECT

Cabana and Clint - A final pic on our way out after the last day in the classroom

After an eye opening trip to CrossFit JAX last weekend we've decided to slow things down a bit here at The Shop and get back to the basics, a place we now realize you should never fully leave. It's easy to get caught up in putting weight on the bar when you're getting stronger. For the most part that temptation got the best of us and we're paying for it in a severe lack of efficiency.

Here are some of Cabana's thoughts with regards to a renewed focus on the fundamentals...

"Don't think of it as taking a step back, rather think of it as taking a big step in the right direction."

He goes on to mention the difference between working fast and hard with intensity but without being efficient...

"I know we don't have to question the amount of heart, effort, or dedication put forth in the past here at The Shop. It's the knowledge of the movements that we lacked."

The last part points out the nature of being confronted with a difficult change like we've initiated...

"Now that we have been instructed on those movements by qualified and experienced teachers, it will be up to each one of us to decide what to do with that knowledge."

In the end we will all be better off by dissecting each others technique and form in all areas. Once we have ripped away all the bad habits and examined the mechanics of our bodies in motion, we'll begin to pack speed and strength back onto our more efficeint, and fully cleansed, bare bones frames.

Thanks again to everyone down there who gave their time and shared their knowledge last weekend. It was a great experience and it won't be forgotten.

  2. Muscle up practice, working from the knees, to the transition and up. Still have difficulty throwing my elbows back and my head "through the window". Something is pinching inside around rotator cuff on left shoulder. Numbs my arm. I have been working on stretching it out and have not had much issue with it except the movement bring my elbows from tight in front and whipping them back and high is a killer.
Goal: Muscle up within 30 days
    Day 1: FAIL
