Bonus Day

Pick something to do out of the ordinary.
Be more active than you want to be on a cold Saturday in January.

Shoot for an activity ranging from 15 - 60 minutes but don't just go thru the motions.

Below are just some ideas, get creative:

Row 5k for time
Jump Rope 2,500 reps
30/30/30 of KB swings @ 35, 44, or 53lbs
30/30/30 of intervals on a stationary bike
Get a whole lotta clothes on and hike around for an hour

I couldn't resist taking a photo when I ran across this in a Quik Trip a few weeks ago.

What's your reaction to this ad? Who do you think it's marketed to? Is it effective? Are they serious or is there meant to be some humor? Would it work on you?

Post activity/time and comments regarding the photo to comments

  2. If you think of sugar as an addictive drug that, in excess, has lead to our country being the fattest and most overweight nation on earth than things start to get interesting. The list of health problems related to obesity is long. We pay higher health-care costs to average out the claims for overweight people just like we do those who have serious illness or cancer related to smoking. Not only doing it but continuing to smoke even after being warned for years of the only outcome. There was a point where the presidents of the major tobacco companies lied to congress about the addiction of their product, later they paid huge $ for their lack of honesty with the public.

I was actually a little insulted by the above ad. I think it's a lie as well, the majority of people who purchase a high sugar pastry from QT will not burn off those calories during their daily activity. They won't even burn off their normal meals, let alone a 600 calorie cinnamon roll consisted almost only of sugar.

No, sugar won't kill you. Desserts in moderation won't kill you. Carbohydrates won't kill you. But, too much of anything over a given time period will kill you.

My point is just that as more and more people begin to realize what too much sugar and carbohydrate will do to their health and overall quality of life, the advertising will get more aggressive.

In my opinion the current QT ads are deceiving and I think someday people will look at an ad like this and be reminded of the majority of cigarette ads that we all used to see everywhere. The good lookin' guy and the hot girl with a cigarette in their mouth aren't around in ads anymore and guess what, that All American cowboy "The Marlboro Man", is more than likely dead.
