About Recovery
Recovery from intense exercise is not easy. You cannot recover from your workouts simply by taking time off. It takes effort, but keep in mind that the faster you recover, the faster you will add strength and speed.
Here are some tips that will help you control your rate of recovery:
-Get enough sleep. Sleep is the most important recovery tool. It restores the mind and the body. Lack of sleep can have an adverse effect on training.
-Go to bed well hydrated, with some food in your stomach. Intense workouts tear down muscle fiber and a balanced meal will give your body the fuel it needs to fix itself.
-Pay attention to what you eat. Nutrition is as important as sleep in order to stimulate recovery. All your meals have to have enough protein, fat and carbs to support your lean body mass. Under eating is one of the worst things you can do to your body.
-Don’t overtrain. Overtraining can impair your body’s ability to fully rest and regenerate.
-Stretch. Yes, stretching helps your muscles to relax and return to their resting lengths.
-Therapy. Using foam rollers, ice & compression methods, or even getting a massage will help you reduce swelling and muscle damage.
Remember, the better you can recover, the sooner and better you can train!
